As owner of the worlds largest Internet trading site for preowned Ambulance’s We are often faced with a difficult decision of not buying one of these classics and getting it saved from eventually ending up in a wrecker yard. We’ve had the joy of fixing up and restoring at least four others of this vintage this one is needing more work than some of the others as a result of someone converting it to 1980s era lights and siren and removing the original items as shown on the white Ravenna Nebraska truck which we think this one once was. Finding the original chrome dome light and speakers is possible. All glass is great. Steering wheel has numerous cracks as was also common, they do make replacement originals.
These projects are for the patient and passionate few who worked out of these vehicles or remember them with some certain fondness. This is a 1972 C20 VIN CKE262F119622 4 Wheel Dr 350 4 bbl ....and it makes it even more rare, currently at 67,000 original miles after we drove it 550 miles recently on a new voyage to our shop, it needs quite a bit but we are currently in the process of doing a major detailing and diagnostics. I like to convert them to electronic ignition if possible... it runs and drives fine but we’d like to fix the heater and air conditioner replace the sill plates there is a slight bit of rust in the floor near the sill plates on the doors ( common on a 46 year old Chevrolet) on each side and we would eventually if we kept it would’ve converted it back to its original state.
Steering adjustment and minor fixes for now as a complete restoration is too much for us to undertake, With all of our other ambulances we have to make some a priority. The nice thing about a 1970s vintage truck like this is most all of the parts are still available as this was a very popular year the 3-Door Suburban is extremely rare But hundreds of examples of GMC and Chevrolet pickups some of this vintage are online as it seems to be a popular model to be restored. We are pretty firm at $9500 as we recognize that if we were to spend the money and do a total restoration we think this could become a museum piece and be worth close to $15,000 easily. Our last 1972 GMC similar to this Was a 2 wheel drive and it has already been sent to a museum. Serious inquiries are welcome to call at 1-503-720-4067 inspection can take place at the Kalispell Montana Shop We currently have the vehicle in our shop and we will probably post a list of new photographs after we get done detailing and cleaning everything.
Vehicle comes with a period correct, Cot but most of the EMS medical items have been removed for replacement in a new ambulance. Siren and all lights function fine locking hubs for the four-wheel-drive, owners manual still in the glove box.
Title is on file, tires are excellent and this motor was running very strong, wish we could justify a total restoration!
